Wu Lei, also known as "The Great Shanghai Port Navigator", is considered one of China's most influential figures in maritime history. Born in 1945 and raised by his father Wu Jianli, he became a renowned figure in the field of oceanography after graduating from Tsinghua University in 1966.

He was instrumental in developing modern shipbuilding techniques and technologies, and played a key role in the development of the Chinese navy.
