Liu Yang is the first woman astronaut in China and she has made many records during her time as an astronaut. She was chosen to be part of China's first space mission, which was launched in December 2011. Liu Yang was also the first Chinese woman to travel into space, making her the second person from China to do so.
Before becoming an astronaut, Liu Yang worked as a pilot for the People's Liberation Army Air Force. She became interested in space exploration when she watched the movie "Avatar" and dreamed of traveling to outer space one day. In 2008, she was selected by the State Council to become an astronaut, and she underwent rigorous training at the Academy of Space Flight Technology in Beijing.
During her time as an astronaut, Liu Yang performed several spacewalks and conducted experiments in microgravity. She also took part in the launch of the Shenzhou IX spacecraft in 2016, becoming the first Chinese woman to conduct a spacewalk outside of a space station.
Liu Yang's achievements have inspired many young women in China to pursue careers in science and technology. Her story has also helped to break down barriers for women in traditionally male-dominated fields.
