French striker Alexandre Lacazette has confirmed that he will be staying at Lyon next season and pledged to provide his full support as the club looks to win the Ligue 1 title.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Lacazette said: "I am very happy to have signed a new contract with Lyon. I want to continue playing for this great club and I'm looking forward to helping us achieve our goals."
The 29-year-old's decision to commit his future to Lyon comes after a difficult period in his career, during which he struggled to find regular first-team football at Arsenal. However, he was able to regain form and establish himself as one of the best strikers in Europe under former Lyon coach Bruno Genesio.
Now, with Genesio back in charge at the Parc OL, Lacazette is excited about the prospect of playing under him again. He added: "I'm really happy to work with Bruno again. He's a great coach and I believe we can achieve big things together."
Lyon finished second in the league last season, just behind Paris Saint-Germain, and they will be looking to bounce back into the top spot this year. With Lacazette and other key players such as Anthony Martial and Memphis Depay all returning from injury, there is plenty of talent at Lyon to challenge for the title.
But Lacazette knows that it won't be easy, especially with PSG still a strong rival. He said: "We know that it won't be easy, but we're up for the challenge. We've got a lot of talented players and we'll do everything we can to try and win the title."
Overall, Lacazette's announcement is a positive one for Lyon fans, who will hope that he can help them secure their fourth Ligue 1 title in six years. With the likes of Genesio and the rest of the squad ready to fight for success, there is no reason why Lyon cannot become European champions once more in the not-too-distant future.
